  [lanastl2.ged] 1. Phineas served in the War of 1812 as a Major on the staff of GeneralPeter Porter. He moved from Vermont to Skaneateles, Onondaga County, NewYork, and then to Wyoming, his future continuos home. During the War of1812 he served in eleven fights. During the Battle at Black Rock hisbrother, Eldredge, was killed while fighting under his command. AtQueenstown Heights, while going to the aid of Lieutenant Colonel WinifredScott, Phineas Stanton was severely wounded, and at Lundy's Lane he wascaptured and held prisoner for eleven months. During the War he was aMajor on the staff, after the war he was placed in command of all thetroops of the State militia in Western New York with the rank of MajorGeneral.
