One of the original proprietors of Litchfield. Never had any formal schooling (home schooled we would say in 1997). Deputy governor of CT 1741-1750. Major General, second in command at the capture of Louisberg from the French in 1745. Governor of CT 1751-1754. Author of Poetical Meditations, first book of verse published in CT.
