    • Daniel Wilcoxson was born March 13, 1755 in Rowan County, North Carolina, a son of John Willcockson and Sarah Boone Willcockson. He was the nephew of the famed Daniel Boone, His mother being a sister to Daniel. Many accounts are written of his adventures, the following is taken form "The Draper Manuscripts": a reminiscent written in 1898 by a lady when she was past 80 years old, in which she states what her grandmother said regarding the Girty attack on the fort, and tells what her grandmother said regarding another incident, " When plowing time came Daniel Wilcoxson and brother were in the fields, Daniel was plowing and his brother sitting on a log picking the flint of his gun ( one would plow and the other watched for Indians), when an Indian slipped up and tomahawked the one on the log. Daniel ran, the Indian after him. The Indian was so near that when Daniel was on the top of the fence the Indian was at the bottom. His mother, Aunt Sarah Wilcoxson was so excited she went out of the fort gate and would Hollar Run, Daniel, Run, and let him in at the gate and then she followed."

Daniel Wilcoxson served as a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War, both in defense of Bryan's Station and in General Clark's expeditions. He volunteered in Rowan County, North Carolina, September 1778, and was discharged in the fall of 1783.
