    • George Emery Seelye, son of Charles Wesley Seelye and Sarah Frances Parsons
      was born Oct. 18, 1867 In Marion Co., IL. He came with the family in 1883 to a
      homestead 5-1/2 miles east of Blunt in Dakota Territory.

      In may 1898 he enlisted in troop E of the 3rd Cavalry (Spanish American War) as an Sergeant with Grigby's regt. of Rough Riders in Cuba. Stationed with his company at
      Camp Thomas, Chickamauga Park, Georgia he became sick with Malaria and Chills.
      Serial #47795 Hon. Discharged Sept. 8, 1898 Pension Cert. # 1,283,505.

      In the earlyyears he and a brother-in-law, Harry Richards Tarbell, ran a
      livery stable inBlunt. While in the freighting business in Pierre with his
      big white team ofhorses he managed to gather up the widow of John Soules for
      his wife. Marriedabt 1910 in Pierre SD. There were no children. He later
      worked for the soldier's and Sailors memorial in Pierre, SD.

      Belle, his wife died abt 1947 and isburied in the little Catholic cemetery in
      Fort Pierre, SD. George had been inthe Veteran's hospital at Hot Springs SD
      about two weeks when he died Feb. 13,1950. He was buried Feb. 17, 1950 in the
      fireman's lot with the Craigs at theRiverside cemetery with the Ivan Dotson
      Chapel presiding, in Pierre, SD.

      Oh! Belle's maiden name was Ketchum.

      George middle Emery, was his mother's Sarah Parsons, mother,s maiden name.
