Clara was only 3 years old when her father was killed in the sawmill in 1860.
On the 1870 census, Clara Collins at the age of 12 was living in the city of Oconto with her mother Sarah Joslin Collins Shaft, her 1 year old step brother Robert Shaft, and her brothers James Collins, 18 and Charles Collins, 15. It is not known whether the Collins came to Oconto as a family or they came after Emily married Robert Spice in 1866.
The death certificate of Clara Collins Spice indicates she was 83 years old, living at 212 McDonald St, Oconto when she died of heart disease. The names of her parents are listed correctly.
The death notice is from the Oconto County Reporter on February 13, 1941
