As a result she could not speak - My father, George William Russell, remembers spending a great deal of time with his Aunt Hattie. Although she couldn't hear or speak, Hattie was a consummate lip-reader (anda Hell of a card player). Dad tells of going to see silent films with her and she would be cackling in glee before the captions emerged on the screen.
