    • Cause of Death: cancer
Grama Herndon was a wonderful inspiration to me.I remember her with the utmost respect! She had many, many friends and was askind, patient and caring as any human individual could ever be! When I firstmet her, she was PTA president of her sons grade school, Wilkes grade school. She worked as a cook in the school kitchen. Then she cooked at "Bakers Beanery" in Fairview. She was very well liked by everybody there. Then she went towork at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the credit department. She then rented her house and got an apartment right across the street from Sears. She lived thereuntil her death.

Wherever she went, she had many friends. She was truly agood woman. She loved her family, every one of them. She was a super positiveperson. My mother, Geneva Shepard called her "Giggles" because she laughed ateverything. I think she did that as a nervous reaction but many times is reversed the anger in a situation.

I miss you, Grama Herndon, you were a wonderful mother-in-law and friend. And, an even better grama. I wish I could be like you.

In 1937, Grama Herndon was living in Freewater, OR and working forthe Stadlman Fruit co. She was 21 years old and applied for her Social Security card. (#543-01-6614) She had 2 boys by then but worked packing fruit to makemoney enough to make ends meet. This was 'depression' times and people had todo whatever they could to make sure the family ate.
