- BIOGRAPHY: He left Westfield in the winter of 1803-4 on foot and journeyed across country to Albany, Schenectady, New York, through the Mohawk Valley, East Creek, Barto Hill, Middleville, Newport and up the sand hill from Graves Hollow to Russia. Five times he made the journey on foot taking odd jobs along the way.After his marriage he made his home in Russia. He and his wife were members ofthe Russia Baptist Church for 67 years. He served at the defense of Sacketts Harbor in 1813 in the War of 1812. Most of his time in service was spent in hospital after contracting typhoid fever.
