- !Was editor of the Marin Journal at San Rafael. Went with his father to MonroeCounty in 1872, learned the printer's trade and for a time was associated withhis father in the publication of the Independent at Quaker City, OH; later inthe Tribune at Gallipolis, OH. For one year was editor of the News at MissouriValley, Iowa; of the North Side Chief at Denver, Colorado, and established theHendly (Nebraska) Rustler, but later went to Colorado and from there to San Diego, CA on account of his wife's health. At San Diego he served as a member ofthe city council for three terms. Came to San Rafael in 1898 and with his brother, Cassius Clay OLmsted, purchased the Journal; represented Marin County asa member of the Legislature in 1903 and 1905 - two terms; was United States Supervisor of Census for Northern California in 1900.
