1638: Stephen Gates, with wife Ann, and children Thomas and Simon, came over in the "Diligent" from Norwich, England, to Hingham, and thence to Cambridge, Massachusetts and died 1662.

Stephen Gates died possessed of this farm, lying on and around Spindle Hill, which he left to his six sons to be equally divided among them.
1711, March 26: The division deed was dated.
1718, March 26: The division deed was recorded. Two sons, Stephen and Thomas, sold their shares and removed to Connecticut. The other four sons; Simon, Isaac, Nathaniel and Daniel settled in Stow, Massachusetts. Daniel's share was next adjoining that of his brother Nathaniel, and included the dwelling-house, barn and orchard.
1757, March 25: The conveyance of the farm to his son Silas was dated.
