    Earl Perry Crandall, 64,of Catskill, N.Y., died suddenly at hisresidence on
    Saturday, March 2, 2002.
    Mr. Crandall was born in Norwich on Dec. 28, 1937, to the lateFrederick and
    Arvilla (Kenfield) Crandall. He was raised in Charlestown, andgraduated from
    Westerly High School in 1955. He earned his bachelor's degree inscience at
    the University of Rhode Island in 1959, and completed hismaster's degree in
    1961.
    He moved to Catskill, N.Y., in 1962, where he taught chemistryand earth
    science at the high school and served as science departmentchairperson until
    his retirement in 1989. During his career he served as the highschool's
    drama coach and was a class advisor.
    An avid genealogist, he was the proud founder of the CrandallFamily
    Association and member of the Geer, Palmer and MinerFamilyAssociations. He
    was the past vice president of the Empire State Society of theSons of the
    American Revolution and a member of the Descendents of theMayflower as well
    as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, ClaverackBranch. Having
    taught for more than 30 years, he was also a member of theNewYork State
    Teacher's Union.
    Mr. Crandall was an accomplished organist and amateurphotographer. He was a
    collector of family memorabilia and Zippo lighters among manyother things.
    He enjoyed traveling both abroad and within theUnited States.
    He survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David andCassandra Crandall;
    his sister, Norma Gaudlap; his niece, Jeanette Smith; hisnephew, David
    Crandall, Jr.; and his great-niece, Jacqueline Smith, all ofRhode Island,
    and Bryan W. Schloss of Catskill, his beloved friend andcompanion of more
    than 25 years.
    Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. inthe
    Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Friendsand relatives
    are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8p.m. Memorial
    contributions may be made to the American Heart Association orthe Leukemia
    Society of America, Inc.
