Left Bohemia at age 25, journeyed through Germany to Bremen, and crossed the ocean on the steamship AMERICA. After a voyage of sixteen days landed in New York City. From NYC they went directly to Chicago, and arrived in that city May 16, 1873 less than 2 years after the great fire. Found employment with Mr. Fort as a laborer.

Moved to Starke County, Indiana in 1888. Bought 120 acres in section 25 of Railroad Township. Built a frame house, cleared timber, drained a swamp, and created a farm. Bought another 80 acres to bring the total to 200 acres. Grew corn, oats, wheat and potatoes. Kept 7 horses, a herd of 25-30 cattle, large number of hogs. Farm buildings all painted red. The following is the source for this family group, however, I think there may be an error. There is a Frank A. Rozhon from Indiana with a daughter Eleanor and son Robert, but his wife's name was Mae Svatos. Frank later moved to Chicago and died there in 1949. The 1930 Illinois census shows Marie living with Eleanor and Robert and listed as divorced, so Mae might be Frank's second wife?

22 May 2003: I've received a copy of Frank's obituary as listed in the Denni Hlasatel newspaper in Chicago. This obit may clear up the uncertainty about Marie's maiden name and whether she was married to Edward or Frank. The obit shows Frank was married to "Mae Svatos", so obviously, it must be Edward that is married to Marie Horek. But WHO is Edward? He isn't part of the family I already have recorded.
