Generation: 1
  1. Vincenc (James) ROZHON b. Aug 1869, Bohemia; d. Webber, Lake, Michigan, USA.

    Notes:
Note: There may have been two James Vincenz Rozhon's born about 1865-66 that were living in Chicago. This family needs to be carefully tracked in the census and city directories to try to untangle them or prove they are one and the same.

This is probably the same person as Vincene ROZHON found in the Naturalization Records.
Birth info provided by Frank W. Rozhon of Grace Ave., Chicago who was his great-grandson.
NOTE: 30 Jun 2003 - No, this can't be since it appears this Vincenc never married and lived in Michigan.

IMMIGRATION: As stated on his naturalization papers, he arrived before 1886 as a child, probably 1881 per voter registration info. Yet he wasn't travelling with his parents who arrived in 1881.

Recent discovery of an immigration record in the "Czech Immigration Passenger Lists, Volume IX" shows a Vincenz of the right age, arriving at the right time to be this Vincenz. However, without actual proof of relationship, it's wise to keep an open mind as to the validity of this linkage and to keep the two families separate.

    RESIDENCES:
1890 32 Zion Place, Chicago (as Vincene ROZHON on Naturalization Papers)
1892 32 Zion Place, Chicago (as Vincene ROZHON from 1892 Voter's Reg)
1901 1298 Spaulding Ave, Chicago (as James Rozhon from CityDir - must be same as below)
1904 1300 Spaulding Ave, Chicago (as Vincene ROZHON from CityDir - this is also the address provided by Frank and John on their naturalization papers)
1910 - Webber Township, Michigan (Farm) - Vincent, Joseph, Michael (father)
1920 - Webber Township, Michigan (Farm) - Vincent, Joseph, Frank
1930 - Webber Township, Michigan (Farm) - Vincent, Frank

Father in Immigration records was listed as Josef.

Registered to vote on 18 Oct 1892 (source: John Apel's research in the 1892 Voter's Registrations in Chicago, IL). Congressional Dist #2, Ward #9, Precinct #13. Living at 32 Zion Place. Born in Bohemia. 5 years in this precinct. 11 years in County and State. That puts him here about 1881. Naturalized on 13 Oct 1890 as Vincene ROZHON. Also at this address was a Jan Rozhon (his brother?).

BURIAL: Bohemian National Cemetary, Chicago, Illinois.

    CENSUS:

1930 - In the 1930 census, there is a Vincent and Frank Rozhon living in Michigan as farmers. I think these are the same two as listed here. The ages match up well. [Note 12 Jun 2003: YES, these are the same people. I found Henry living with his sister in Chicago in 1910 at 3728 W 26th St.]
