THE BROWN GENEALOGY, Vol. I, Boston, The Everett Press Company 1907, byCyrus Henry Brown, page 129.
Elder Brown, as he was afterwards called, moved with his family, inMay, 1792, to the wilderness of New York. The year previous he went onhorseback to Albany, NY, and procured a deed of land in the town ofBrookfield. During the summer he made a clearing and built a log house, and in the autumn returned to his family in Stonington. The followingMay, with his wife and children in an ox-cart and he on horseback, theybegan their logn and perilous journey to Brookfield.
The early training of these children was in their New England homein Stonington -- not only from father and mother, but also fromgrandfather and grandmother, for this indefatigable man of God had notonly gathered a church, but guilt a house of worship, largely by hiscourage and energy and with his own hands. Here these grandchildrenlistened to the gospel as it fell from his anointed lips. This fact mustnot be forgotten, for Ruth, the oldens, was twenty-four years old, andPhebe, the youngest, was five years old, when they emigrated toBrookfield. Thus in their childhood days began the development ofChristian life and character which continued, with increasing activities,in their new pioneer home and its characteristic of their descendants tothe present time.

She never married; lived in Brookfield, NY, and had for her share ofthe home farm the part lying south of the turnpike, on which was a livingspring of water called "Aunt Ruth's Spring" long after her death. In heryoung womanhood she was surrounded by atmosphere of Christian love andfellowship, and in maturer years her home was full of sunshine and goodcheer, and her name has been perpetuated from generation to generation, until descendants by the name of Ruth are counted by the score.

THE BROWN GENEALOGY, VOL. 1, Boston, The Everett Press Co., 1907, byCyrus Henry Brown, page 163.
Luke and Matilda soon after marriage moved to Vermont, where threeof their children were born. From there they moved to Pharsalia, NY, andlater to Otselic, NY.
Matilda Brown Miner was an ideal mother, a woman of rare Christiancharacter, great courage, and good judgment. When moving from Pharsaliato Otselic she rode on a colt and carried her infant son Joshua in herarms. Then the country was new and wild. They travelled by blased trees. What is now in 1905, the beautiful village of So. Otselic, NY, with citywater and gas, then had nothing but log houses in the town.

THE HOMES OF OUR ANCESTORS IN STONINGTON CT, by Grace Denison Wheeler,page224
About halfway between Westerly and Stonington, stands the houseowned by Mr. Daniel Brown, and a little to the southeast, we see a gatewhich leads through a pasture to an old house, built by Mr. James Babcockin 1740, as a board which is over the front door testifies. This Jameswas the son of James and Sarah (Vose) Babcock, who married Phebe Swan in1730. Their grandson, Elihu Babcock, who married Elizabeth Jefferies, also lived, died and was buried here and his daughter married JoshuaRobinson, who lived at this very place for a time, before he built thenew house which stood where Mr. Brown's house now stands. This Babcockhouse was somewhat rebuilt by Mr. Daniel Brown in 1882, but it is still amost quaint looking building, gambrel-roof and shingled on three sides, with only one window in the whole east side. It has a big stone chimneyin the middle and the heavy oaken outside door, whose threshold is wornsmooth by the many feet which have passed over it during these onehundred and sixty years.

BROWN GENEALOGY, Vol. 1, Boston, The Everett Press Compnay, 1907, byCyrus Henry Brown, page 47.
Hosmer A. Brown (389) went with his brother Andrew to what is nowknown as Brownsdale in 1855, and preempted a large tract of land, usingin the payment a Land Warrant which was granted his father (385) forservices at Stonington, Conn., in the War of 1812. When they came to thiswild country there were but two settlers for miles around. Putting in asawmill, they cut hundreds of acres of timber for lumber, and from thisbegining sprang the beautiful village of Brownsdale. For two terms Mr. H.A. Brown has represented his district in the State Legislature ofMinesota. Residence in 1905, Brownsdale, Mower Co., Minn.
