LOCATION

3725 Pearl Road
Cleveland, OH

The firehouse had two floors. The lower was used for the fire fighting apparatus and the upper for living and sleeping facilities. When an alarm was raised, the firefighters on duty would slide down a brass pole to the lower floor. The horses were kept behind the firehouse, so would be brought forward and hitched to the firewagon.

HISTORY

Designed by Cleveland architect, John W. Dolman[1] (1867-1925), Brooklyn Centre's firehouse was built in 1894 at the corner of Pearl Street and Terrace St. In modern terms that is the corner of West 25th St. and Willowdale Ave.
Opened in the late 1890's, it was one of 25 firehouses in the city at that time. Also in the area were several signal boxes that residents could use to notify the firemen of a fire.
