Post-1906 name:

West 17th St.
Previous to being named Howard Street, it was known as LaBelle or LaSalle Street. Earliest mention (found thus far) as Howard St. was in an 1883 deed.

Location:

Between Kenneth Avenue and Denison Avenue.

Development:

Edwin H. Foster purchased 10+ acres of land here in 1867 from Brainard, Curtiss, & Pixley.

Named for:

Most likely named for the son of Edwin H. Foster. Young Howard died shortly after his birthday in 1877 at the tender age of seven.
