In Remembrance - Reverend Chester C. Cudnik

The Reverend Chester C. Cudnuk, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Barbara Parish, Cleveland died Monday, 17 June 2013, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.

Chester C. Cudnik was born on 23 December 1922. His parents were the late Stephen and Stanislava (Niksa). He was educated at Saint Casimir, Cleveland, Cathedral Latin, John Carroll University and Saint Mary Seminary. On 22 May 1948 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Father Cudnik’s first assignment was as Assistant at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Lorain.

On 19 April 1949 he was transferred to Saint Joseph, Collinwood to serve as Assistant Pastor. Father Cudnik was transferred to Our Lady of Czestochowa, Cleveland as Assistant Pastor on 8 September 1949. During this assignment Father Cudnik volunteered to teach religion at Hoban-Dominican High School. On 12 June 1958 he was transferred to serve as Assistant Pastor at St. Barbara, Cleveland. On 29 March 1962 he was transferred to Saint John Cantius, Cleveland to serve as Assistant Pastor. Father Cudnik was transferred to serve as Assistant Pastor at Saint Mary, Painesville on 29 August 1963. He was also appointed to serve as Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Painesville Council #947. On 30 September 1969 he was appointed Assistant Pastor at Corpus Christi, Cleveland. On 28 July 1970 Father Cudnik was appointed Pastor of Saint Barbara, Cleveland where he served until his retirement on 31 October 1997.

Vespers will be celebrated on Thursday, 20 June in Saint Paschal Baylon Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Road, Highland Heights at 3:00 pm. The wake will continue until 8:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 21 June at 10:00 am in Saint Paschal Baylon Church. Bishop Richard Lennon will be the main celebrant. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery.

In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Father Cudnik and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
