Named for Charles H. Petty of the Petty and Baldwin Company which purchased the property and sub-divided it into lots in the neighborhood of W.14th St., W.15th st., W.16th St., and Botany Avenue. The land was originally part of Daniel C. Foster's property and was sold to Petty and Baldwin in 1874. They in turn sold the sub-division to Gates, Curtis, and Foster in 1875. The property was quickly turned over to Consolidated Oyster Packing of Baltimore, Maryland.
