History:

Prior to 1850, the children of Brooklyn Centre could attend Brooklyn Academy. Parents were required to pay tuition so their children could receive an education.
The wood schoolhouse was torn down and replaced by a brick building. An additional building was built in the early 1890's when Denison Elementary became a part of the Cleveland Public School System. At that point, the building contained 16 rooms.
