Selwin Babcock was born about 1820 in New York and died on the 21st of June in 1896. He was the 2nd husband of Philena Rooker Holmden.

Their home, as shown in a very early illustration, was located in Original Lot 56. The deed states that the sellers were A.B. and Lydia Haight. The property description gives a size of 18 1/2 rods x 40 rods which is 305' x 600' on Rockport Road between Wm. Alcott on the east and Stephen Brainard on the west and Stephen Brainard/Ozias Fish on the south. Rockport was later renamed to Denison Avenue.
